The
Presidential Commission on Sustainable Development (PCSD)
of the Republic of Korea is organizing, on behalf of the
Government of the Republic of Korea, a Shared Learning
and Review Workshop of the Republic of Koreas National
Strategy for Sustainable Development (NSSD) to be held in
Seoul from 12 to 16 March 2007, in cooperation with the United
Nations represented by the UN Division for Sustainable Development
of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs.
The Shared Learning and Review includes a Technical Meeting,
which was held in Seoul on 19-20 December 2006 and a Shared
Learning and Review Workshop from 12 to 16 March 2007.
The Workshop provides government and non-government representatives
from Asia-Pacific countries including China, India, Japan, Malaysia,
Mongolia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam with a unique opportunity
to have in-depth discussion and exchange experiences, lessons learned
and best practices in national strategies for sustainable development.
Relevant international organizations including the OECD, UNESCAP and the
UNEP also participate in the Workshop as observers, sharing their works
in the area of NSSD and enabling the linkage of local, regional and
international dimensions of sustainable development.
This Shared Learning and Review process of the Korean NSSD is the first
of its kind in the Asia and Pacific region where the NSSD formulation
and implementation have shown a relatively slow progress. Through this
Shared Learning and Review Workshop, Korea wishes to share its experience
in sustainable development, in particular, developing and implementing the NSSD,
with Asian and Pacific countries and foster regional partnership for sustainable development.
